7:00am. Check the cancellation lists; every operator reposts same-day openings between 7 and 9am, and in the shoulder season they are frequently discounted by $25 to $75. If you did not lock a Saturday morning pontoon on Friday, this is your second chance. 8:00am to noon. The pontoon or boat rental to Crab Island: launch by 9am, anchor while the sandbar is deepest, and swim in 86-degree water with a couple of dozen boats around you instead of a couple of hundred. A half day on a 10 to 12 passenger pontoon is $300 to $400 with a $250 to $500 refundable deposit hold, a $30 to $60 damage waiver and $40 to $60 in fuel; Saturday is the one day this month I would pay $450 to $650 for the full day and keep the boat until 5pm.
